Calder Road Bridge Tear Down - August 29th, 2009

The new Calder Rd / Brittany Bay Blvd intersection on August 9th.   The overpass will replace the bridge soon

The Calder Rd bridge over I-45 avoided destruction two days earlier

A new direct ramp from I-45 to Hi-96 will replace this bridge and alleviate the traffic bottleneck on the other side

On Saturday, August 29th, northbound I-45 traffic is redirected to the feeder road and crosses Calder before the bridge

The west side of Calder Rd. bridge is currently being torn down

Jack hammers breakdown the concrete and trucks haul the debris away

Sunday morning, August 30th, at the Calder Rd / Brittany Bay Blvd intersection, traffic to the bridge is blocked

Once complete, this will be the new I-45 crossover & lost drivers will puzzle why Calder Rd is on both sides

Southbound I-45 traffic rolls along the feeder road along side the new overpass

Southbound I-45 traffic on the feeder road passes by the Calder Rd bridge as it is torn down

Access to the bridge and to Brittany Bay Blvd is blocked to ensure a steady pace along the feeder road

Southbound traffic empties I-45 and is diverted away from the feeder road that travels under Calder Rd. bridge

All I-45 south traffic makes the pleasant scenic bypass around the bridge over the weekend

The Calder Rd. bridge span is completely removed from the freeway and the pieces are broken up and carted away

Dust kicks up from a northbound vehicle near the end of westbound span of the Calder Rd bridge

Southbound feeder road is blocked for vehicles removing bridge debris

Already 85° at 9am, it will be hot enough to fry eggs on the street later in the afternoon today
