Houston Zoo on Spring Break - March 13, 2014

Cousins have a joint outing during spring break

Meet at McGovern Lake outside the Houston Zoo

Bring some bread along to feed the ducks

Recent cold front requires a morning jacket

Nena, Donna and David will chaperone the 4 cousins today

The far ducks are hungry too!

The twins feed their audience of ducks

We're prepared with strollers loaded with food & snacks

Those pigeons are little more aggressive!

David's canon battery is still charging at home

Today's zoo album is solely via smartphone cameras

Enjoy the fountains near the bathrooms at the giftshop

Then into the Carruth Natural Encounters building

Start with several tropical fish tanks

The girls find a tunnel going through the tank

We are in a fish bowl of the fishbowl!

Look at all these big fish, neat!

Interesting surface floating fish with alligator eyes

Over to the mole rat area, which look like dark hamsters

Giant mole rat is always watching you, so be nice

Jellyfish in a column tank on the way out

Exit at the meerkat enclosure who photobomb our shot

Continue on by the Asian Elephant exhibit

Get to see baby Duncan who was born February 7, 2014

Stop at a picnic area for some snacks

Crackers, ham & cheese sandwiches and fritos hit the spot

Find a posing rock nearby, Savanna takes a turn

Cheyenne is up next for her rock pose

Erin is last as Alex is still enjoying lunch

Continue on to the cats to see a pacing leopard

Next over to the large lion enclosure

Male lion is napping while female is up near the glass

Go underground to find a window closer to the kitties

Male lion is still enjoying his nap in the sun

Check out the andean bear up and walking about

Girls relax inside a mongulu in the african forest

Bust out the Fritos & Cheetos, Erin wants some!

Continue the african forest path to the drums

The girls pound out a tribal beat to everyone's delight

New gorilla enclosure in under construction nearby

Next is the chimpanzee enclosure

One is kind enough to nap right at the glass for us

Four cousins pose on the rhino photo op board

Because real rhinos aren't so good for posing

See Lifeflight depart nearby Memorial Hermann hospital

Savanna and Erin check out the giraffes

Also have zebras and ostriches in the enclosure

Some patrons get to feed the zebras

Enjoy a snack & rest the feet while the girls play

I'm pretty sure I'm going the right way

Injured, non-flying bald eagle by the playground

Savanna calls Alex to the top to go down the slide

Down and out then over to the petting zoo

Too many kids & not enough goats during spring break

Finish up at the long reflection pool

Girls feed the koi for multiple photo ops

David allows himself to be on the other side of a camera

Time for some sweet background/four cousins poses

Donna shows great patience and good balance throughout

Taking 20 photos & photoshop SW provide some keepers

Lets see some teeth! Perfect!

An absolutely beautiful day to come to the zoo

With the temps warming up to high 60's by 1pm

Depart the zoo & find a Rocket's bounce house outside

Sign up for endless SPAM for kid bouncehouse time

You know we didn't give our true contact info right?

Truly a beautiful day in Houston TX during spring break!
