The third county courthouse with priors built in 1856 and 1840

Built with elements of the Second Empire, Gothic & Mediterranean styles

The cornerstone was laid in 1891

The county was named for US President John Tyler

The courthouse was modernized in 1937, losing its high style elements

Texas calvaryman who survived many civil war battles

College & town formed at the same time, the town still exists

Character-defining windows remain from the original design

Bricks exposed on the east side from Magnolia Street

The rear addition was added during the 1937 modernization

The Works Progress Administration funded the remodeling project

A boy scout eagle project added a patio w/benches in recent past

The stucco was added covering the red bricks during 1937 remodel

The County is raising $$ to restore the courthouse to its 1891 configuration
